Is Beyonce a Copycat?

Last weekend's Beyonce performed Run the World (Girls) at the Billboard Awards. The hot performance was the talk of the night and of the week. Beyonce dances and interacts with moving images in front of a giant white screen. It's a very complex choreography, what Beyonce said to be one of the performances that she's had to work the hardest for. All had to be perfectly synched and positioned for the effect to come out correct. Beyonce did it perfectly, showing how much of a hard worker she really is.

Sure obviously she had to work very hard to get the choreography perfect, but did she have to work hard on the idea and concept of the performance?! Perhaps not, it turns out that Beyonce has been getting some flack for her performance, all because talian pop star Lorella Cuccarini did a very Similar performance last year. Well If you put both performance videos side to side, you see the similarities. A few of the images were obviously inspired by the Italian songstress'performance, But Over all it was a Very Different Performance.

The technique of projecting on screens for Musical Performances is not a new thing. This communication tool has been around since at least the 80's. Beyonce has now used it and made it her own. The visuals and level of complexity within the performance topped Cuccarini's performance.

Beyonce Says that If it weren't for Youtube, she wouldn't know of so many wonderful ideas that are out there. An artist creates based on his or her inspiration. So Beyonce was inspired by another artist... Whats the big deal? She did her rendition of an inspiring performance. She made it her own and made it even better! Kudos to Beyonce for being inspired and Kudos to Cuccarini for inspiring!

Do you think Beyonce a Copycat?
